Trapped inside the classroom,

Eyes down, sit down, hold on tight

We're gonna stare at screens for hours

We're gonna burn our eyes tonight.

Locked behind Arctic-white walls,

We take in Arctic-ice air with each breath

Forgetting that all this electricity

Is burning the Arctic to death.

Until someone whispers

What is that furry green thing?

What is the two-eyed brown wing?

Shut up, it's 4am.

I can't see anything

All I know it's time for studying.

We talk about climate change

Like it's the 13th century

Everybody's names are a mystery,

Trees. Plants. Animals. Insects. All

Lost before we ever saw finding

Dead before we ever saw dying

I write

We're gonna save the planet tonight

I type

Will the owl still come hooting tonight?
